If you decide you want to start a decorating project in your home would you know how to start one? The process can be a little overwhelming so I thought I would give you some helpful tips to think about. There are so many options out there. It is better if you know a little bit about what you want.
First, decide if you’re doing the project or if you’re hiring a professional. This is the starting point. If you’re hiring a professional they will take over the process. You can decide if you a want a full service designer who will do everything from design to install. Or if you want to be a little more involved you can hire an e-designer and they will design the room and you will buy the recommended products and install yourself. Or you can do the project completely on your own using your inspiration ideas.
Decide on a budget. This builds on the last tip a little bit. After you decide which type of service you want you will need to decide how much you can afford to spend on the room or remodel. This is an important step and one you want to take very seriously. If you are choosing to use a professional, make sure you are including their fee in your overall budget.
Look at your current home and do an assessment. You will want to do an inventory on the room(s) you are remodeling. What are your likes and dislikes? Are there any areas of concern in the room that you need fixed? Is there furniture you want to keep that we need to work around? And do you have any inspirational pieces that you want the room designed around? This will really help you get a good start on your project.
Do a wishlist for the project. Think about what you would want to do in your remodel if money and time were no object. This will help you come up with things you may be holding back on that you didn’t even know you wanted. Also designers are great at taking ideas and saving money in ways for “splurge” items.
Collect photos of inspirational ideas. This is probably the best way to show your style to your designer. Often times you won’t be able to decipher and explain what your style is, but your designer will be able to see patterns and color similarities in your inspiration pictures. They will be able to create design boards from what you showed them you liked.
Lastly, if you are doing the remodel on your own it is a good idea to shop your home to see if you can use any of your own accessories before purchasing new ones. Here is a recent post I did that describes the benefits and process of shopping your home.
