Christmas Vignettes – Places You Don’t Think To Decorate

I can’t believe we are almost mid-way through December.  Just the other day it was 70 degrees in Va Beach.  What in the world?  The flowers think it’s spring again.  I hope you had the chance to see my home tours.  If you didn’t, I’m really proud of them so when you have a little time I would love for you to check those out here and here.  Today we’re going to talk about going beyond the tree and the mantel.  There are such great places to decorate that people pass up.  These places are often called vignettes.  A vignette is a grouping of objects that create a focal point and sets the tone or tells a story.

I’ve often talked about your home and the items in it as being a reflection of your personality and who you are.  You only need to keep things that you really love and that shows who you are as a person.  I think decorating these vignettes can really reflect who you are.

This first one is one of my favorites because there are so many variations. The bar cart is so practical yet glamorous at the same time.  Here I set up a little hot chocolate bar and small dessert station for a child’s sleep over. The decor is simple, but chic.  Mixing metallics is still very popular and very easy to do.  I’ve had this cart for quite a while, but I think it was purchased at Target.  You could use it on New Year’s to set up some drinks for the evening and that would be just as lovely.

You can decorate more than just your tree for the holidays. Try some small vignettes like a bar cart.

You can decorate more than just your tree. How about high traffic areas like foyers and mudrooms?

This is a chest of drawers in the mudroom.  My husband really likes to have a place for his keys, wallet, and odds and ends when he comes home from work.  I totally get that, but I also don’t like to have those things showing.  We compromised and he has drawers to organize all his stuff and I get to decorate another surface. When there isn’t a holiday coming up you could put out cute bins and buckets for organization and decor too.  I have a cute dough bowl that he puts his stuff in and a cute lamp that goes here.

Fresh flowers always make the perfect decor piece.  They brighten up a space and look beautiful.  I love all the reflective vases on this chest.

This side board in our dining room is perfect for serving guests.  It is actually a roulette table.  We have 2 of them and always used them in our dining room as they are the perfect height.  Be on the look out for pieces that have duel purposes like that.  I styled this with decorative items that also look beautiful with the food and drink.

I love doing a coffee station especially when we have company in town.  It is so much easier and inviting for your company to know where things are if everything is organized in a little vignette. Plus isn’t it just so beautifully done on this little tray?  Add some mugs, sugar, cream. ornaments and a candle and your’e set.

Often times the foyer is the first impression. My foyer table is from Restoration Hardware and I just adore it.  It is the perfect color of wood that goes with everything. I love styling it for the holidays.  This greenery is an older piece from Frontgate.  It’s gorgeous, but it was one of those that went with a collection and they only carried it for that year.  I’ve had so many people ask me about it and how to get one.  People have even asked me could I make them one.  HAHAHA.  This chair is from One Kings Lane and the Cashmere throw is from Frontgate.

People don’t really think to spice up the kitchen , but look how cute this little tray looks with the soaps, lotion, and the candle.  It’s probably all the stuff you already have in the kitchen anyway.  Just pull it altogether in one place and stick a piece of greenery there.

This vignette looks amazing in this cute little library.

I love this vignette.  This is in my library.  I put this settee in here a couple years ago.  I was cleaning out my attic this fall and I laid that quilt there to be washed and it sparked some creativity.  The greenery is actually a garland and I just turned it into what looks like a wreath.   I think this is so cute,  It just gives the upstairs a little something special.  I don’t do a whole lot up there and this just looks so cute.

Dough bowls are perfect for using in small vignettes. You can fill them with almost anything festive.

I love this little dough bowl.  I have it on the coffee table ottoman.  I think anything with a little fur looks awesome this time of year, Don’t you?

I showed you 7 different places you could add some more Christmas decor to your home.  I hope that gave you a couple more ideas.  Go out this week and choose at least one and try it out.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how simple and easy grouping a couple things together can be.  Just take things you already own and see how quickly it can turn a room from drab to fab.
